Transfer Students

Welcome!

The University of Michigan welcomes transfer applicants from community colleges, two- and four-year colleges, and universities.

As one of the nation's top-ranked universities, offering over 226 undergraduate degree programs, Michigan is an excellent choice for your degree completion. A transfer applicant is defined as any student who has attended any institution of higher education after high school graduation on any basis for any period of time. U-M-Dearborn and U-M-Flint students are considered new transfer students.

More than 1200 transfer students enter the University of Michigan each year. With over 3000 transfer applications, admission is competitive.

Transfer admission is specific to one of the eleven undergraduate schools or colleges. Before you apply, you must first decide which School or College is right for you.

Each school/college has unique Deadlines and Requirements for admission, and policies for Transfer Credit. Exploring this site will help you to prepare your academic credentials for successful transfer to Michigan.

All applicants who meet at least one of the following criteria must also review our International Admissions information. Regardless of your citizenship:

  1. A portion of your academic experience was completed outside of the U.S.
  2. Students who are non-native speakers of English.
  3. International students holding or requesting temporary U.S. visas including the F1 or J1 student visa status.
