8–11th Grade

Congratulations on getting a head start on the college selection process!

It is important to understand what colleges will expect from you at the beginning of your high school career so that you can adequately prepare yourself to be a competitive applicant. It is also important to find out if the colleges you are looking at will meet your personal and academic goals and will be the right fit for you. Be sure to take a look at Michigan's Profile as you begin your search.

At the University of Michigan we have a number ways to help you begin your college search. Register as a prospective student and we will send you information about the university and keep you updated on the most current events. If you will be near Ann Arbor please schedule a visit to see the campus, meet with an admissions counselor, and take a tour of campus with a student tour guide. Finally, we have a guide for 8th-11th graders that explains how you can best prepare yourself to be a competitive applicant to the University of Michigan. Encourage your parents to learn all they can about the college search and application process; you'll need their support and encouragement as you make decisions about this important next step in your life. We also strongly encourage you to make use of your high school counseling office and/or career center.

One of the most rewarding aspects of being here at U-M has been the amazing amount of diversity I have encountered. I have classmates and professors that come from all over the world. This university is a great place to spend four years because you will broaden your horizons more than you ever thought possible.”
