From a wicked weekend to fraternity funness (yes...i know that's not actually a word)
As the countdown begins to my final days of my freshman year, I'm not going to lie that I'm nervous. Classes end in 15 days. The Dalai Lama comes in 19 days. My final exam is in 24 days. Holy Cow!
The past two weeks have been a whirlwind. I just got back from Chicago with a group based out of my residence hall. I've been helping to plan the trip for awhile, and it was the craziest and most fun 36 hours I've had in awhile. We started out by painting a bunch of rooms in a diverse neighborhood, at a church that supports Anglo's, Hispanics, and African-Americans. I had my favorite Chicago style hot dogs for lunch, and then we headed into the city! They were having earth hour there that night(youtube Sydney Earth Hour to see what I'm talking about), so after some shopping, we sprinted to the John Hancock, only to find that the line was so long we couldn't get up. After that, we headed to Little Italy to get good ol' Chicago style deep dish pizza. On Sunday, we went to the Mexican Museum of Art, ate at the best cupcake shop ever, and saw WICKED! Yes. I am absolutely obsessed with Wicked, and seeing it (though it was my third time) with my friends made it a hundred times better.
Besides what I've been doing this past weekend, however, I have been spending alot of time with the people in my fraternity. In the past week, the girls have played powderpuff, our representative was Mr. Professional 2008 (see picture), our initiate class (tried) to stump the brothers by playing Figure It Out (Nickelodeon flashback?), we went to a lecture/discussion on Buddhism for membership development, and tonight is our induction! I never imagined that joining a pre-professional fraternity could be so much fun, but every time we get together, it's a non-stop party. I can't wait for our formal on Saturday either, so you can rest assure I'll have lots of pictures and memories from that too!
Now that Campus Day is coming to a close, there is one thing that I think I should say out in the open. Lots of people ask about Honors Housing. I recommend it to everyone. No offense to my beautiful friends I've made here, but at first, I didn't think you could PAY me to do Honors Housing. I thought that everyone would be in their room, doors closed, doing homework ALL night. I was terrified of nerdiness and geekyness taking over my life!
The best part, though, is that I found the best and most normal people I'd ever met in my entire life. This does, however, imply that you believe I am normal (which hopefully you do...but if not, then I wonder why you're reading my blog still ;) ). But I love honors housing and all the events that are put on, and I recommend it to anyone that has the option. Not to mention that if you do Honors without the housing, the only reason you're doing it is for the classes (and trust me, that's no fun!)
Hopefully I can do an alliteration to finish this blog.
Check out the pictures above, Come to Campus Day, and best of all, (I) Can't wait to get any emails and questions you may have!
Until next time (samgreen@umich.edu),
Samantha
