Allow me to introduce myself...
Hey guys, my name is Christy Hammond and I am a senior getting a joint degree in Sport Management (Division of Kinesiology) and Communication Studies (LS&A). I hope to get a job in Sports PR upon graduation in December 2009.
As my career aspiration would indicate, I love sports. I'm happiest when I'm at a hockey rink or football field and it's hard to beat Yost Ice Arena and Michigan Stadium. The atmosphere in both, particularly in the student sections, is absolutely amazing and I love that Michigan has both for us to enjoy. I intern with the Detroit Red Wings in the PR department and this is my second season with the team. In addition, I intern in the U-M athletic media relations department where I work hockey games and make the inserts you see at the games. I also write for the M Magazine and help with some of the programs. On the side, I transcribe interviews for a Sport Management professor to make some extra cash.
In terms of hobbies, I have two blogs that I update regularly. One is called Winging It In Motown and it's about Red Wings hockey. My other blog is entitled Sports PR Blog and as the name suggests, it's about Sports PR. I love watching sports, movies, and TV. I've had 10 knee surgeries so I can't be physically active so I guess I live through the TV.
I'm involved in New Life Church, which is a great nondenominational church just off campus on Washtenaw. I've met my best friends through there and the community is just amazing. In addition, I am the interim president for Students for Organ Donation (SOD). We are a student organization that tries to raise awareness about the need for organ and tissue donation. I have actually had a tissue transplant and will have another this summer so it's something very near and dear to my heart.
UMSOD is actually currently competing against Ohio State University to see which rival can register or reconfirm the most individuals before the big football game on November 22nd. If you'd like to learn more about the challenge and hear some great stories about U-M students and alum who have had organ and tissue donations, you can check out the Challenge website. If you would like to reconfirm (if you already are a registered donor) or register (never have done so), you can go here to do so.
Because of the Challenge, I'm spending a lot of my free time trying to organize schedules of shifts for registration tables so it's definitely going to keep me busy through the big football game!
Well, that's a brief introduction to me and what I do when I'm not in class. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment or send me an email at cjhammon@umich.edu. Go Blue!
