Back to the Real World
Winter break went by WAY too fast, but I have to admit, it is nice to be back! I came back to Couzens and it was right back to how it was last semester – lots of fun, loudness, and, of course, insanity! My friends from the hall and I spent Wednesday night catching up, talking about our holidays and New Year’s, watching movies, and trying to forget that we had our first day of class the next day.
So Thursday morning it was back to the daily grind, with class bright and early at 9 am! Most of us are in the honors program and have take Great Books, so we struggled to put on our layers and layers of warm clothes (on a side note, long underwear has saved my life this winter!) and made the trek over to the Natural Sciences Auditorium for our first lecture of the year. As interesting as it was, Plato’s “Theory of Forms” definitely was not what I wanted to be doing first thing in the morning!Thursday was an incredibly busy day! I had all four of my classes, starting with Great Books. Then I had Honors Psychology. I’m thinking about majoring in psychology, so I was really excited to get into this class! We jumped right in; by the end of the session, we had already started our first project, in which we have to do a group study about stress in college (it shouldn’t be too hard – as soon as Organic Chemistry has a test coming up, I know that I’ll have plenty of test subjects!). Then I had Stats. After Calculus 3 last semester, I’m hoping that the math in this class will be almost relaxing! Then “mon cours de français” (I guess I didn’t forget everything over break!). By the time I was done with class at 4, I was beyond ready to just chill out!
When I have long days like that, I’m even happier to have the great friends that I have here! It was so nice to come back to my dorm room and have a group of people there to relax with. Before classes really get started, I love having the time to talk about nothing and watch Seinfeld for hours.
The evening was a total girl’s night – a bunch of friends and I sat and talked about the break’s inevitable drama, and then spent hours getting dressed up for a night of dancing at Necto (a club in downtown Ann Arbor). I had such a great time, and it was an excellent way to start the semester!
It’s a whole new year, but everything at the University of Michigan
exactly the same, and that’s just fine with me!
