Welcome!
We realize that this is a time where you’ll be making many important decisions about your future, and we want you to know that we are here to help you with any questions or concerns that you may have. We hope that this helps you to determine that the University of Michigan is the right place for you! We have included some helpful links to guide you through the next steps in your enrollment process.
- Tell us your plans as soon as you know, but no later than the enrollment deposit deadline (May 1 for Fall term). The non-refundable $200 enrollment deposit secures your place in the class.
- Come see what the University has to offer first-hand! Campus Day is an opportunity for you to come visit the University, meet other admitted students, talk with current students and professors and answer all those last minute questions that you may have. The Campus Day registration web site is listed in your admissions packet.
- Get your uniqname! Once you’ve paid your enrollment deposit, you’ll want access to everything U-M has to offer. Your University of Michigan "uniqname" is your key to it all. Visit the uniqname website with your OTID (One-Time ID) in hand, and get started!
- Wonder where you’ll be living? You need that new uniqname to be able to apply online to live in a residence hall. First-year students who have paid their University enrollment deposit will be able to access an online residence hall application, and if the application is submitted by the deadline provided with the application, these students will be eligible to participate in a residence hall lottery. The lottery determines the priority order for residence hall assignments. No priority is attached to early payment of the University enrollment deposit. Students who pay the enrollment deposit after the deadline will be notified to access the online application one to two weeks after payment has been received by the University; applications in this group are assigned on a date-received basis. Questions? Check with University Housing.
- If you wish to receive Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate credit, make sure that exam results have been submitted to our office by the testing agencies.
International students are a special part of our University of Michigan community. We are fortunate to have students enroll from around the globe. The Universitys International Center serves as a resource to meet the special needs and concerns of our international students. The International Center provides information about immigration regulations, health insurance, international student clubs, and more.
The University of Michigan requires all international students who enter the U.S. on temporary U.S. visas and their dependents to have health insurance. You must purchase health insurance upon arrival at the University. Go directly to the International Center to fill out an insurance enrollment form when you arrive. Your insurance will not be effective until you have filled out this form. If you already have an insurance policy which will cover you in the United States, you may contact the International Center to see whether it meets the minimum coverage requirements.
To obtain credit for university-level course work from outside the U.S., or advanced- standing credit for certain Advanced-level Examinations, have an official or officially certified copy of your final university transcript or exam certificates or results mailed to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as soon as they are available. Credit evaluation may be done before classes begin, or at the beginning of the term. Please have course exam syllabi/university course descriptions available if needed. (If these documents become available very close to the time you plan to enroll, please also fax an initial copy to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 734.936.0740.)
International students who have been admitted and plan to enroll who hold or plan to obtain an F-1 or J-1 student visa are required to submit the Financial Resources Statement (PDF). The I-20 form (certificate of eligibility for the F-1 visa) or the DS-2019 form (certificate of eligibility for the J-1 visa) will be sent after we receive your Financial Resources Statement and proof of full financial support, and after you have confirmed your intent to enroll. Contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 734.764.7433 if you have any questions.
Generally, enrolling speakers of English as a second language are required to take the Academic English Evaluation (AEE) placement assessment during the Orientation program. The AEE is given by the University of Michigan, English Language Institute, TCF Building, 500 East Washington Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104-2028, USA, 734.764.2413, Fax: 734.763.0369, elinfo@umich.edu.
