International High School
Graduation Credentials
Students who have been admitted and intend to enroll in the University are required to have a final official secondary school transcript submitted directly from their high school showing final grades and graduation. Please have this submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as soon as it is available and well in advance of your arrival on campus.
Please arrange to have any Advanced Placement exam results officially submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
Please read below for information on international credentials and requirements.
NOTE: All transcripts and exam certificates must be submitted with an official English translation if not issued originally in English.
Australia
We require an officially certified copy of your Board of Studies Statement of Results for one of the following: Western Australia Certificate of Education (WACE), Higher School Certificate, Victoria Certificate of Education, South Australia Certificate of Education, or Australian Capitol Territory Certificate. You must include all of your subject results.
Please also send our office an officially certified copy of your Tertiary Entrance Exam (TEE) results/rank.
British-Patterned Education
Students who have presented Ordinary Level examinations (“O” Levels) to gain admission are considered to have met the requirement for submission of final high school graduation documentation. (General Certificate of Secondary Education [GCSE], or a comparable maturity certificate—GCE, CXC, SPM, HKCEE, IGCSE, WASC, EASC, etc.)
If no “O” Levels were taken, as is the case with a few schools in Singapore, H1, H2, and H3 Level exam results are required as the high school completion document.
NOTE: Advanced standing credit may be granted for any Advanced Level examinations. If taken, Advanced Level examination results should be faxed to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 734.936.0740 as soon as available. The same is required for H1/H2/H3 Levels from Singapore.
Canada
British Columbia: We require a final transcript showing a minimum of four or more Grade 12 academic subjects with final B.C. Provincial Ministry of Education exams.
Ontario: We require a final official transcript showing a minimum of five or more Grade 12U courses including grade 12U English and one additional U/UC course (or completion of six OAC’s) on the OSSD.
(Students who complete programs in Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology (CAATs) must submit a final transcript for all years completed. Up to thirty credits of advanced standing may be granted on a course-by-course basis for students who have completed a three-year CAAT program. No advanced standing credit is awarded for completion of a one- or two-year program.)
Quebec: Students who have enrolled in only the first year of a College d’enseignement General et Professionnel (CEGEP) must submit a final official transcript following completion of that year, including twelve academic courses. Students who complete a full academic (non-vocational) CEGEP program (two or three years) should submit a final transcript and may be eligible for advanced standing credit. Advanced standing credit will not exceed thirty semester hours.
All Other Provinces: A final transcript showing completion of the secondary school program.
European-Patterned Education
European Baccalaureate: We require an officially certified copy of your externally issued European Baccalaureate exam results showing scores for each exam subject. We also require an official English translation. Advanced standing may be available depending on the results.
France: French Baccalaureate We require an officially certified copy of your externally issued French Baccalaureate exam results showing scores for each exam subject. We also require an official English translation. Advanced standing credit may be available depending on the results.
Germay: Abitur We require an official copy of your Abitur exam results along with an English translation. Advanced standing of seven to eight credits may be given for certain exams taken in appropriate Abitur (Leistungskurse Profungsfacher) subjects with acceptable exam scores of seven or above.
Greece, Cyprus: Apolytirion We require a certified copy of your Apolytirion along with an official English translation as soon as it becomes available.
Iceland: Studentsprof We require a certified copy of your Studentsprof along with an official English translation as soon as it becomes available. Advanced standing of up to thirty semester credits may be awarded on a subject-by-subject basis for exam scores of six or better on the Studentsprof.
Netherlands: V.W.O. We require a certified copy of your V.W.O. along with an official English translation as soon as your V.W.O. becomes available.
Norway: Vitnemal We require a certified copy of your Vitnemal from upper secondary school showing final examination marks and graduation along with an official English translation. Limited advanced standing credit may be given for certain “branch” subjects in which a national written or spoken exam was taken with scores of five or six. If the “Examen Philosophicum” is taken, nine credits may be awarded for an acceptable score.
Scotland: We require a final, official copy of your Scottish Certificate of Education.
Spain: We require a final, official copy of your Curso de Orientation Universitaria (C.O.U.).
Switzerland: We require a final, official copy of your Maturitätszeugnis, certificat de maturité, or attestato di maturità. U-M offers some one-year renewable scholarships for international students who are Swiss citizens. The amount varies up to $9,000 per year, depending on the number of students who apply, plus need and merit considerations. India
We require a certified copy of external exam results following Standard XII and certified copies of marksheets for Standard XII as soon as these become available in the spring.
Indonesia
We require a certified copy of your SMA certificate and a certified copy of your STTB Diploma with an official English translation.
International Baccalaureate
We require an official transcript of grades for International Baccalaureate (I.B.) exams sent directly by the I.B. office as soon as results become available. Students may be given advanced standing credit for examinations passed at the Higher Level with minimum grades of five (or in some subjects, four) or better. No advanced standing credit is granted for Standard or Subsidiary Level Examinations. Middle East
We require an official, certified copy of your national secondary school certificate examinations. This may include the General Secondary School Certificate, Tawjihi, or the June written examinations.
Israel: We require a certified copy of your Bagrut Examination Scores and Certificate.
Lebanon: We require a certified copy of your Lebanese Baccalaureate exam results.
New Zealand
N.C.E.A. We require an officially certified copy of your National Certificate of Educational Achievement (N.C.E.A.) Level 3 and any Level 4 results as soon as possible after these are issued in April by the New Zealand Qualification Authority. You may have any official at your high school certify the copy, or the New Zealand Qualification Authority may send these directly to the University of Michigan Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
