Office of New Student Programs

Our primary goal in the Office of New Student Programs (ONSP) is to ensure your successful transition into the University community. We do this through three programs designed to assist new students: Orientation, Welcome to Michigan, and the University Mentorship Program.

All new students must attend Orientation, during which you meet with an academic advisor, receive guidance in course selection, and register for classes. At Orientation, you have a chance to meet other new students, get acquainted with campus facilities, and learn about important campus resources.

Welcome to Michigan is a week of events and programs that help you get familiar with the campus and its resources. Welcome Week is filled with many exciting activities including social events, academic programs, workshops, and open houses.

The University Mentorship Program brings new freshmen together with upperclass students, faculty, and staff mentors who provide personalized guidance in adjusting to college life at the U-M.

The staff at ONSP are here to help answer any questions you may have throughout the year. We work in collaboration with the entire University to serve as your source for information and referrals.
